Learning and discovery are at the core of museums, archives and libraries. Inspiring Learning for All adopts a broad and inclusive definition of learning as its starting point:

'Learning is a process of active engagement with experience, It is what people do when they want to make sense of the world. It may involve the development or deepening of skills, knowledge, understanding, awareness, values, ideas and feelings, or an increase in the capacity to reflect. Effective learning leads to change, development and the desire to learn more.'

Resource definition adapted from Campaign for Learning

Learning is most effective when it happens at both a belief and an identity level so that we can make sense of something and can relate it to our own life experiences.
Inspiring Learning for All is based on the firm belief that every experience in a museum, library or archive has the potential to encourage learning.

'We lack a consistent cross-sector planning and delivery framework that both shares best practice and stimulates further improvements. I welcome Inspiring Learning for All which provides this unifying framework along with practical support materials to help institutions, whatever their collection or size.'
