Here are some of the positive outcomes for those taking part in piloting

  • A range of different evaluation methods generated far richer evidence of learning than before
  • A few focused questions can be added to existing survey forms to substantially improve the data gathered on learning outcomes
To have organisational impact all staff need to sign up to the assessment of learning outcomes
  • Using the GLOs opens up debates about learning internally - important for staff development and improvement of user services
The GLOs can be incorporated into business plans and used as a framework for evaluation
  • The GLOs can be used to develop briefs for architects and designers: Poole's architects brief for the new community library; and for exhibition development: the development of the Churchill Museum at the Cabinet War rooms has been based on the GLOs. Download the Churchill Museum Brief
  • The interest from other sectors suggests that this has a far wider application than museums, archives and libraries.

'The Generic Learning Outcomes will be a valuable starting point for the higher education sector which will want to develop more focussed impact measures tied closely to institutional aims and objectives such as teaching and learning strategies.'
